名詞。
1. 果實；水果；果類
單數複數同形，不加s；若加s 指不同種類。如： fish. fishes 指很多種類的魚。

例句：
He does not eat much fruit. 他不大吃水果。
Miss Lee eats a lot of fruit every day. 李小姐每天吃很多水果。
Would you like some more fruit? 你想要再來一些水果嗎？
We need some more fruit. We haven't got any bananas or oranges. 我們需要多備一些水果，我們還沒有買到香蕉和橙。

His failure is the fruit of laziness. 他失敗是懶惰的後果。
The old man was enjoying the fruits of his life's work. 那老人在享受他一生工作換來的成果。
It was a tragedy that he died before he could enjoy the fruits of all his hard work. 這是一個悲劇因為他還沒能享受到自己辛勞工作的成果。
Their plans haven't borne fruit (=had a successful result). 他們的計劃毫無結果。

形容詞。
fruitful land 很多水果的地=肥沃的土地
Mr. Green has a fruitful garden. 格林先生擁有一個結滿水果的的院子。
A successful plan is fruitful. 成功的計劃是會產生好結果的。
Your work here has been very fruitful.  你在這裡的工作相當有成果。
It was a very fruitful meeting; we made a lot of important decisions. 這是一個非常有成效的會議； 我們在會上作出了許多主要決定。

fruitless 較少水果=無結果的；徒勞的；不成功的
a fruitless effort 徒勞
a fruitless tree 不結果的樹
So far the search for the missing boy has been fruitless. 到目前為止，尋找失蹤男孩的工作還是沒有結果。
